Goals:

Participants learn how to successfully write English letters and e-mails. Typical phrases are practised extensively. Additionally there is a strong focus on intercultural differences, e.g. different ideas about politeness. Participants are to provide examples from their work environment that can be edited and optimized. The seminar includes information about different ways and requirements of business correspondence as well as practical exercises to ensure that participants are able to implement seminar experiences.

 

Seminar Contents (2 days):

  • Structure and Vocabulary of English Business Correspondence:
    Letter, Fax, Emails, Memos
  • Formality: Greeting and Closures, Subject Line, Attachments, Enclosures and Abbreviations
  • Intercultural Differences: Different Communication Styles
  • Useful Phrases
  • Typical German Mistakes: Vocabulary, Grammar, Tenses, Spelling, Word Order
  • Creating Templates
  • Use of Supporting Tools, e.g. Thesaurus
  • Writing Reports
  • Editing Correspondence of Participants
