Performance Dialogues

Workshop Geared Towards Executives in Leading Positions

In today’s business climate most companies run performance dialogues at frequent intervals (minimum once a year). However, experience shows that neither superiors nor direct reports are very enthusiastic about this managerial tool: executives often perceive the conversations with each member of their staff as a time-consuming interruption of their daily work whereas direct reports normally feel nervous about the upcoming encounter with their boss. The aim of this workshop is to analyze the particular performance dialogues currently practised in the company, to clarify the purpose of the instrument and to prepare participants for future performance dialogues. Additionally effective communication techniques are introduced, discussed and practised.

Workshop Contents (1 Day):

  • Different Kinds of Performance Dialogues (Social Communication, Performance Evaluation, Agreement on new objectives?)
  • Analysis of Performance Dialogues Currently in Use (Purpose, aim, function, outcome, effects, possibilities for improvements)
  • Potential and Risks of Performance Dialogues (Effects on the relationship between superiors and direct reports, motivation or demotivation of employees)
  • Effective Communication (Models of Communication, dialogue and dialogue inhibitors, feedback techniques, criticising and confronting)
  • Preparation of Future Performance Dialogues (Setting, visualisation, lists of appropriate topics, following up on agreements etc.”)

The workshop is designed to ensure high practical relevance. Participants are invited to provide examples from their work environment. Interactive lectures and coaching units alternate. Difficult parts of performance dialogues can be simulated on demand.

The number of participants is limited to 8 people.
